Our Little T-Ball Star

At the ripe old age of 4, Cade has entered the world of organized sports. Lucas and Bodie decided to put Carter and Cade in T-Ball this spring and coach the team. Bodie went down and signed up to coach a team then informed Lucas that he had no intentions on being the head coach - he'd leave those duties for Lucas! LOL Lucas and I were pretty nervous about the idea of coaching a T-Ball team since we had never been involved with any sports team as a parent. The first couple of weeks were pretty crazy. We were stressed about finding a uniform supplier and getting our team together.

We named our team the Athletics. We have the same colors and logos as the Oakland Athletics. Our first practice was on Monday March 7th. It was a cold day but all of the kids and parents seemed pretty excited.

Our first pre-season game was last Tuesday March 22nd. Let me just say, I had no idea that a sporting event could be so funny, intense, entertaining, and exciting all at the same time! I was so proud to watch all of the boys. We have several standout players on our team! Every single one of those boys tried their best and made at least one good play. A few even provided some entertaining laughs for us parents.

Our first inning was our best. I'm not sure how many runs we scored in the first inning, but my guess is at least 5. Carter scored a home run during that inning. Carter is a great player with skills that seem to far surpass what you'd expect from a 5 year old. He got all 3 of our outs (on the 1st 3 batters) during the first inning while he was playing first base! GO CARTER! He also slid into home on one of his scores! I can't wait to see this boy play in a few more years.

Carter sliding into home!  Go Carter!!

Cade had a good game too. He is the only 4 year old on our team (this is a 5 year old team), but you really can't tell that he's the youngest. Cade got a hit both times he was up to bat - one of his hits resulted in an RBI; however the batter after Cade struck out which was our 3rd out. So, Cade didn't get to score. The other time he was up to bat he got out before making it to 1st. I was so proud of him both times though. He looked like a real ball player out there!

Cade's Hit! GO CADE!

In the 3rd inning, while our team was in the outfield - Cade was determined to get his hands on the ball and get some action! Every time the ball went into play he chased after it. (No matter how far away it was from him.) When one of his teammates would get the ball (usually Carter), Cade would stand about a foot away waving his arms yelling, "Throw it to me! Throw it to me!" When they didn't, he would get so upset. After this happened about three times, Cade had had enough! He started crying and walked out into the outfield. One of the umps was a sweet, young girl. She went over and talked to Cade and gave him some encouragement. He sucked it up and got back in there with the rest of the kids.

Cade and his umpire friend!

Probably the funniest moment in the game was when one of our players, Caison, ran from 1st to 2nd; but Brooks, the player on 2nd, didn't run to 3rd. Instead, he stayed put on 2nd! Everyone kept yelling for Brooks to run to 3rd. Then when we realized he wasn't going to, we began yelling for Caison to run back to 1st! By this point Caison was confused too - so they both stayed on 2nd. In the end, one of the boys was called out, which was our 3rd out. When Brooks got back to the dugout, he began telling his dad (Mark, who is also one of our coaches) about how he was on that base first. He really just didn't understand how he could be in the wrong, because he was there first, so it was his base! It was so cute! :o)

Our boys won their game, which made me so proud! They were rewarded with some goodie bags I put together.  The bags had a package of Big League Chew, a package of Sunflower seeds, and a Gatorade.  I also glued this sweet poem to the outside:

My Little Hero

It's time to knock one out of the park
You're my T-ball Hero you see
But if all you can do is swing till you're blue
You're still a hero to me

And I'll never forget the first ball you hit
It seemed like a home run to me
I shouted and hollered and got all excited
As I watched you - do you're best for me

That makes you a hero - a - T-Ball 'Hall of Fame'er'
Regardless what others might see
Because that's how I see you - You're My Little Hero
And forever that you'll always be

- Robert Yborra

Momma's Hair

Just a quick post...

My little Caders just loves his momma's hair. I think it all stems from when he was a baby and stayed with his Aunt Dimples "Annie". Annie has very long thick black hair. When he was just a few months old and first learning to grab at stuff he would always grab her hair and play with it. Well it caught on so much that even now that he is 3 years old, he still loves hair.

I asked him the other day if he liked other girls' (his Mema, his Nana, etc.) hair, or just mine. He says, "I just like your hair, mom." Anytime I pick him up to carry him somewhere, he immediately puts one hand in my hair. It almost as if he thinks it's a handle bar. Sometimes at night or early in the morning he'll even ask me, "Mom, can I play with your hair?" I always let him even though it hurts so bad.

There is nothing more sweet than having your child love on you! Such a sweet boy! Love him so much!

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!  It's a 3 day for us since it's MLK day on Monday!  Woohoo!

My New Year's Resolution...

My New Year's Resolution is to blog more often... not just when I have cute pics to post or after a birthday, holiday, etc., but about all the everyday things that happen that make our life so special!  Cade is always saying something funny or cute... and when he does I want to have it recorded so I can go back later in life and laugh at those special childhood moments all over again.

Ok, funny story of the day...

This morning I went to wake up Cade - and he was tired.  He rolled over, looked at me, and said, "But, mom I'm still sleepy.  I'm just gonna take a little nap."  Then he tried to go back to sleep.  Of course, I couldn't let him...  Poor guy.  A few minutes later when I was trying to brush his teeth he said, "Momma, can I just play with your hair for a lil bit?"  That boy just loves playing with my hair.  Especially when he's tired or sleepy.  He's just so sweet and so precious.  Love him so much!

White Christmas 2009

Well Christmas was interesting this year, wasn't it?  I was one of the ones that hoped for a white Christmas.  That is until it started sleeting at 8 a.m. on Christmas Eve.  By noon, we had several inches of snow and the city was a mess!  There were cars stranded everywhere in OKC.  NW Expressway looked more like a parking lot than a major street.  It took me nearly 2 hours to get home from work - but luckily I made it home safe.

Our house on Christmas Morning

Lucas, Cade, and I planned to go to Lucas' parents for Christmas Eve for a quiet evening.  However, by 6 o'clock they had shut down every highway in OKC and were telling people we were in a blizzard and needed to stay inside. Lucas and I debated, but decided to stay in for the evening.

Our Christmas Eve was pretty uneventful...  I ventured over to the neighbors in what was probably 10 - 12 inches of snow to borrow some baking soda so that Cade and I could make cookies for Santa.  I picked up some Reindeer food (oatmeal) from Walmart earlier that morning so that Cade could feed the reindeer.  Of course with all the snow we had, Cade just had to walk out onto the little 3 foot by 3 foot square that Lucas had cleared for us on the back porch.  Cade dumped the oatmeal out in a pile - and I picked it up and threw it around for the reindeer.
Cade making cookies on Christmas Eve

Lucas and I managed to talk Cade into going to bed around 10:30 or so.  I kept telling him that Santa would be here soon and so he'd better go to bed, but he didn't seem too worried.  Once we got him in bed, Lucas and I played the Wii for a while.  I think Santa circled the block a few times until he knew Cade was good and asleep.  Once we gave the go ahead to Santa, he came down the chimney and delivered a kid's sized brown leather chair, 2 Transformers, a Transformer book, the movie Up on DVD, and a new coat from Baby Gap.  Lucas and I managed to see Santa off and get in bed around midnight.

Santa's Christmas Delivery

Cade must've woke up in the middle of the night because he ended up sleeping on the couch.  He came in and woke me up around 7:30.  I said, "Cade do you want to go and see what Santa brought?"  He says, "Oh he brought me a Transformer book and some Transformers."  So since he'd already seen everything, we didn't get to see how excited Cade was.  Needless to say, we got up right away and started opening presents with Cade.  From me and Lucas, Cade got:  4 more Transformers, the first Transformer movie on DVD, some blocks, a dinosaur toy and a game.  From my mom he got a fire truck tent, 3 new DVD's, an easel, and a Big Wheel.  Luckily, Santa didn't leave out Lucas and me.  Lucas got a PS3 and some games and accessories.  He also got some new clothes from Express.  I got a Wii, a Wii Fit, and several new tops and a pair of slacks from Express.  I also got a new Coach!  Needless to say, we all had a good Christmas!

Me and my new Wii Fit

After opening our presents, we picked up the house and settled in for a long day shut in at the house.  Normally, we cook dinner for my family on Christmas Day - but since the roads were so bad, we decided to stay in for the day.  However, that didn't last long.  By about noon we were all ready to venture out.  So, we got ready and about 2 o'clock headed over to my mom's to take them some chili for lunch.

Cade and Marti playing in Nana's yard on Christmas Day

We headed over to Lucas' parents to hang out with his brothers.  The roads weren't as bad and what we were afraid they would be.  Jamie put out a cheese and meat tray for all of us (she was not expecting any of us - since we all had other plans that were cancelled).  Cade spent the afternoon playing with Marti.  They played out in the snow for a bit, but I was so scared he'd get sick - so that didn't last long!  The kids opened gifts from Nana and Pape.  They each got 3 presents - something they need, something they want, and a surprise.  Cade got pajamas as his need, a Transformer as his want and a game as his surprise.  I got a Scentsy candle warmer and some Scentsy wax bars - which I love!  Lucas gave his dad a book about OU.  It has all of these old pictures from OU over the years.  It has replicas of old tickets and programs and things like that.  It was very well done.  I think Rick really liked it too.  We gave Jamie a nice sweater and matching shell top from Catherine's.  I think it's a little bit too big - but I hope she likes it!

Saturday morning, my dear sweet loving husband, Lucas went out and shoveled our entire driveway and sidewalk so that my aunt could come for Christmas dinner.  She's in a wheelchair and so the sidewalk had to be pretty clear.  I worked on Christmas dinner and did the overwhelming majority all by myself for the first time.  My mom and Floyd, Annie and Uncle Victor and my Aunt Neta and cousins Zach and Mikey came for dinner.  Lucas' parents were also able to make it.  Lucas' mom has a great way of making people feel comfortable!  She is always welcome when I'm entertaining people in my home!  We had a nice dinner and then opened gifts together.  My aunt got lots of new stuff.  She got a new bedspread for her bed at the nursing home.  She also got several new sets of clothes and a new Elvis calendar (which the nursing home has already lost!  Arrgghh!)  I got my uncle some socks and a new wallet (he's a man who would only want something practical!)  My mom got a new shirt and a new set of earrings from Express and some Bath & Bodyworks stuff.  We got Floyd a book with lots of useless knowledge in it...  I thought he'd like it....  Cade got a new game and some bath toys from his Aunt Neta and cousin Zach.  He also got a new flat panel TV with built in DVD player.  We all had a really nice day.  Neta brought pictures from my cousin's wedding over the summer...  looks like it was a beautiful wedding.  We got some great pictures with my Annie.  She just adores Mr. Cade.  I just wish that he would play with her more.  It's hard for him though because he likes playing with people who can get down on the floor and tickle and wrestle and all that kind of stuff...  unfortunately, she just can't do that anymore.  But, I can see her love and admiration for him every time she sees him.  Her face just lights up like a Christmas tree.  I don't think I will ever get tired of seeing that look on her face!  Once dinner and presents were over my mom, Floyd and Aunt Neta left.  Zach and Mikey wanted to go back to my mom's - and of course Cade wanted to go with them.  So, we let him go.

Me, Lucas, Victor and my Aunt waited for Med-Ride to come pick her up.  They were 2 hours late and didn't show until 6 o'clock.  I could tell that my uncle was getting anxious.  I think he was nervous about driving home from the nursing home in the dark on icy roads.  I really can't blame him either.  Luckily, he made it home safely.

Me and Lucas at Edna's - having our first Lunchboxes!

After our crazy day, Lucas and I went to the mall to get some after Christmas deals and spend some Christmas cash!  We got some great deals at our favorite store - Express!  Then we headed over to Edna's to have a lunchbox.  That was fun because neither of us had ever been there or experienced a Lunchbox before.  I just had one, but I think Lucas had 3!  Afterwards, we went by my mom's to pick up Cade.

Sunday morning we were ready to do Christmas all over again!  LOL  I got up around 10 and started making homemade chocolate chip cookies fast and furiously!  I think I made close to 75 cookies.  22 of them went into 11 Christmas goodie bags that I made for Lucas' younger cousins and nieces.  The rest were eaten that day and night.  They were some of the best cookies I've ever made, if I must say so myself!  We went to Lucas' grandmas Sunday around 12:30.  We had snacks and a light lunch.  We opened presents and Lucas' cousin Dylan dressed up like Santa for all the little kids.  He made a wonderful Santa.  I think all the smaller kids really enjoyed it.  We adults enjoyed it too.  It was fun seeing Dylan get so involved in what was going on!  After food and presents all the kids (as well as Lucas, Brad, and Shecoeta) went outside for a snowball fight!  I went out and took pictures (there was no way I was getting involved!)  Lucas and Brad had fun sticking snow down the back of Shecoeta's shirt.  (must stink being the only girl cousin in that bunch - she's always getting picked on!)  Cade was so cute because after Lucas was done playing with all the bigger kids, he walks over and says, "Play with me, Daddy."  He was all sad because his daddy had been chasing the bigger kids with snowballs and taking it easy on him.  It was really sweet to see that he was so desperate for his daddy's attention.  So of course, Lucas chased Cade around and threw (or really tossed) a snowball at him.  Cade thought it was great!  (I would've been ticked if he threw on at me!  LOL)

After leaving Lucas' grandparents, Shecoeta and her two youngest (Grady and Carter) came home with us to wait for Bodie to get back into town with the 4 oldest boys (D, G, Chandler, and Brayden).  Lucas and Grady played NCAA Football 2010 on PS3 while Shecoeta and I sat on the couches and relaxed.  Bodie showed up a couple of hours later with the older boys - who all decided to come back after their basketball practice and spend the night.  They all stayed up late with Lucas playing football on PS3.  Those 4 boys are full of energy and keep things quite lively!

Unfortunately, Lucas woke up at 2:30 Monday morning with the stomach virus that has been going around - and he was so kind to share with me.  Luckily, all the boys had already had it (in fact, I think they shared it with us!) - so we didn't have to worry about them getting it.

We really had a wonderful Christmas.  The snow put a damper on things on Christmas Day.  However, I just made the decision that Christmas Day is any day that you make it.  So, in my heart Saturday Dec. 26 was actually Christmas.  Honestly, to me it even felt like Christmas - very few times did I even realize that it wasn't.  I think Christmas is about family and tradition.  As long as you're with family and celebrating your traditions, Christmas is whatever day you want it to be!

What I'm sure is the best benefit of working at Coyote - right, JW?

Ok, this blog is getting long, but I also want to include pictures from New Years.  New Years was lots of fun.  Lucas and I went to Coyote Ugly with Bodie and Shecoeta and Sara and her two friends Heather and Jennifer.  There was lots of fun to be had for all.  Me and Sara and her girls danced on the bar and made sure to have a crazy good time.  Lucas, Bodie and Shecoeta took lots of tequila shots - and of course Bodie made sure everyone around him was taking lots of tequila shots as well - except for me!  It was a great night - ringing in the New Year with great friends!

I'm Thankful for 2009

A friend of mine made a list of all she was thankful for this year. I decided to do the same. I thought I would just jot down a few things, but as I kept moving I thought of more and more things.... Turns out - I'm more blessed than I thought. Happy Thanksgiving to you all!

1. My aunt. I'm thankful for the health that my aunt still has. She was very sick over the summer and nearly died on us, but she made it through. She isn't as healthy as she was last year, but she's healthy enough to come to my house tomorrow and share a meal with our family. I'm so thankful for the time we will have together!

2. Lucas. Lucas is my best friend and my rock. He is truly my partner in life and I'm so grateful for that! There is no one else with whom I can share everything that going in my life. Lucas is always on my side and always there for me though thick and thin! He is also a wonderful dad to Cade. I had a 16 hour day yesterday and could tell that Cade really missed me. When I got in bed, I just wanted Cade to come in and cuddle with me. So, I turned to Lucas and told him that Cade really missed me... he read my mind and said, "Go get him and bring him in here." What a daddy!

3. I'm thankful for my momma. I've taken her for granted so much of my life. I don't want to do that anymore. Who else would babysit my son 40 hours a week and then drop by on a Sunday to see him just because she misses him? When I see how much she loves Cade, I realize how much she loves me too. I'm grateful to have her in my life and as my momma.

4. Cade! Who else can bring a smile to your face after a 16 hour day? I came home last night at 10:45. Cade was laying down trying to go to sleep. He heard me come in the door and said, "Is that you, momma?" He was so happy to see me... I could see pure joy in his face. Seeing joy in his face warms my heart and puts a smile on my face. I'm so thankful that God has blessed me to have Cade as my son.

5. My uncle Victor. He my uncle and my dad. I love him so much. I'm so grateful to heaven above that he still has his health. If there is anyone in this world that I know I can always turn to in times of need, it is my uncle Victor. Everyone should have an uncle Victor in their lives - and I'm so glad I have mine!

6. Rick and Jamie. What better in-laws could a girl ask for? Rick and Jamie are such loving, kind people. They love me for who I am and like I am their own daughter. They are good parents to Lucas and wonderful grandparents to Cade. They are fun, outgoing, generous, and kind. They would give anyone the shirt off their back... and I'm not just saying that - it's true... they really would.

7. Floyd. 4 years ago my mom and Floyd got married. I'm so grateful to have Floyd as a part of our family and as Cade's grandpa. Cade loves Floyd so much. Floyd has never had any kids, but still has taken to being a grandpa naturally. I dropped Cade off this morning and his grandpa was stirring about waiting for him. He already had Cade's chocolate milk ready for him. What a guy!

8. My home. I talk about wanting a new house all the time. And, I do want a new one. But still, I'm so thankful to have my home.

9. My car. I got a new car in February of this year. Well not brand new, but close. I drove my last car for 9 years and it had seen some better days. I'm so grateful to have reliable 4 door car. Not to mention it's just fun to drive!

10. My job. I'm so grateful to have a job to be able to provide for my family. And, not just any job - a job that I love. I love the people I work with and the people I work for. My bosses are wonderful people who love and care for us. My co-workers are easy going and fun. They make coming to work each day a blessing. My co-workers are talented and so good at what they do. I grateful to be able to lean on them, gripe to them, hang with them and, laugh with them. We are a family and I'm glad to be a part of this family.

11. Courtney. My best friend Courtney who I take for granted so much of the time. She loves me unconditionally and has stood by me through the years. Courtney has had my back even when it wasn't easy. I love her so much and am grateful for the small bits of time we have together.

12. The Hinshaw and Ketchum families. I grew up in a tiny family. I was pretty much the only kid in my family on holidays. I always loved Christmas because of the presents and stuff, but had no one to play with my toys. Now, I'm part of a huge family. Lucas' immediate and extended family on both sides are awesome. OK, there are so many of them... and I'm grateful for them all, but here are the ones that immediately come to mind:

Aunt Jenny, Uncle Greg, and Jill. They were in a horrible car accident earlier this year. I'm thankful that the Lord above was watching over their car that evening and that all 3 made it out. I also pray for their continued recovery.

I absolutely adore my nieces Alissa and Marti. Alissa has grown to be 9 years old now. I remember when she was just a 4 month old baby that I was afraid to hold... and now she approaching her teen years. And my niece, Marti. What a fireball! She is full of life and energy. She has a sweet sprit and an ornery streak too!

My sister-in-law, Heather. She is a great friend to me and the only sister I've ever had. Love her!

My cousin-in-law, Shecoeta. I've known Shecoeta for nearly 10 years now, but have just became close to her in the last year. I'm grateful for her friendship and the relationship that Lucas, Cade, and I have with her family. The Garrett's are one of the most fun families I've ever known. In my next life, I want to be a Garrett kid! HaHa :o)

Lucas' aunt, Dot. Has there ever been a stronger woman? Dot has been through so much in her life, but has overcame and given God to glory! She is one of the strongest witnesses for Christ that I know. She has never met a stranger. I'm grateful to have her in my life.
Lucas' Nana and Papa Ketchum. Nana is such a joy to be around. She's the grandma that every kid should have. So loving, so kind. I'm so glad that Cade has them in his life and that they are healthy enough to enjoy their great grandchildren.
Nane Hinshaw. We lost Papa Hinshaw 3 years ago. I'm so thankful that Nane is so strong and able to pick up and be the leader of our family. Nane is a great grandmother, but quite possibly the youngest most vibrant great grandmother I've ever known. I'm grateful that we have her to keep the Hinshaw family close knit.

Lacey. I've known Lacey since she was 14 (or so). However, we weren't close for a long time. Now that Lacey is 24 and I'm 28, we have much more in common. Lacey is a great friend, wonderful cousin and my partner in crime at school. I'm so thankful to have Lacey to lean on as we go through school. If I decide to go back for my master's, I hope Lacey comes along too... not sure if I'm willing to do it alone after having a buddy all this time!

I left off so many members of the extended family. I'm grateful for all of you and hope that all of you know, that even if I didn't mention you... I am grateful for you!

13. Doris. My officemate, Doris is a great friend. Doris is always there to help when I need it - rather it be work related or not. I'm grateful to have not only an officemate, but also a friend with whom I can share my workday!

14. Cade's Friends. Cater, Grady, Mason, Dylan, Brayden, Teegan, Avery. So glad that Cade has all of these cousins and friends in his life. I didn't have that as a child, and I'm grateful that my son does!

15. My classmates in OL250. I can't think of another group of people I'd rather spend 4 hours with every Tuesday night. You guys are some of the smartest people I've ever met. All of you are full of wonderful thoughts and ideas. I have learned something from each and every one of you. I'm grateful for our laughs and also our ability to gripe to one another... and more than anything I'm grateful that we all help each other when we're down. As much as I'm excited about graduation, I can truly say that I am sad when I think about our time together coming to an end.

16. I'm thankful that Lucas and I are able to provide for Cade. There are many kids this Christmas who won't get anything or will get very little. I'm grateful that we will be able to fill Cade's wish list and our own as well. In addition, we plan to fill some of the wish list of a girl we know. She just turned 13 and has never really had a Christmas. I'm grateful that we know about her situation and that God has blesses us so much that we are able to help provide for her. In addition, I'm grateful for Lucas' boss who has offered to organize their office to help us made this the best Christmas ever for her!

17. Many other friends and family members that I haven't listed here. There are so many great people in our lives! I'm grateful for you all! :o)

I could go on and on, but I'd better stop. Apparently, I have a lot of blessings and much to be thankful for this year! Love to you all and Happy Thanksgiving!

Lucas' Great Accomplishment!

We are very excited because last night was Lucas' last night of college... that's right, he's done! Once his teacher grades his final project, he will officially be a college graduate! I'm so proud of Lucas and all that he has accomplished. He has stuck with this dream for nearly 10 years and worked so hard to see it come to fruition. He is the first college graduate on the Hinshaw side of his family - which I think is a great accomplishment not for just Lucas, but the entire family. Now just 7 more months, and I'll be right there with him! Love to all! - Shaunna

Also, I came across this beautiful picture of Cade and wanted to share it with the world...

Then came across this funny picture of Cade and wanted to share it too...
